I began my legal career as a prosecutor, which I did from 1995 to 2000. I prosecuted thousands of DWIs as a prosecutor and taught police officers how to be more effective. I took all my skill and knowledge, and I have applied it to defending people, many of whom are wrongly accused. I am a Field Sobriety Test Instructor and have taught the Student Field Sobriety Test Course around the country. I have been asked to teach police officers too. Let my dedication and experience fight for you.

Doug was raised in Kansas by a father that taught him the most important lesson in work ethic: “If you are going to do a job, do it right or not at all!” This is why Doug puts in the time and effort even when others would give up. He keeps fighting. It is that fundamental mindset that sets Doug apart from other lawyers.

It was also that mindset that led him to graduate Texas A&M as a “Distinguished Student”; not an easy task, but his dedication paid off and he moved on to law school.

Upon graduating from South Texas College of Law, Doug worked for Vinson & Elkins, LLP in Houston and was assigned to a multi-billion dollar national lawsuit, which sent Doug all over the country.

Making contacts in Washington, D.C, he then went to work for the Ambassador of Ecuador in Washington, D.C. as his legal liaison. Doug assisted the Ambassador in all types of legal matters and international lawsuits.

He received an offer from the Ambassador’s law firm at the same time a prosecutor position was offered to Doug in North Texas. Doug accepted the prosecutor position, and for the next 5 years, he prosecuted in Denton and Dallas Counties.

During Doug’s tenure as a prosecutor, he was aggressive and successful; creative and engaging in the courtroom. He used his time in the prosecutor’s office to learn the tactics and techniques of becoming a successful trial lawyer. After defeating a highly successful lawyer, Doug was courted to office-share with him and The Wilder Law Firm was founded in January 2000.

He has always stayed on the cutting edge of training and attending seminars to ensure he has the most knowledge he can to represent his clients. This has led him to be recognized as one of the Best Lawyers under 40 in Dallas by D magazine, and also recognized as a Super Lawyer.

Doug is known for successfully trying cases that are difficult to win. He puts the time and effort in reviewing each case in its entirety for loopholes, technicalities, officer error, and creative angles when trying to perfect a defense.

Doug has a small law firm that produces large results. When you hire The Wilder Law firm, you are hiring Doug; NOT an associate attorney or another lawyer in the firm. All clients have his personal cell, and he is just a text or phone call away.
